Join us as we journey to Sapelo Island, GA for the Culture Day Celebration. Hog Hammock on Sapelo Island is the intact Gullah/Geechee community in the Sea Islands of Georgia and comprises of direct descendants of slaves brought to Sapelo Island in 1802. 

Most of its residents are descendants of free blacks who purchased property after the Civil War and of slaves who lived and worked on the island. The community originated in 1834 as one of several early African American settlements located throughout Sapelo Island

Planned Itinerary

Fri. 10/17 Depart Atlanta from West End Mall 3:00pm. Check into hotel, Hampton Inn Suites in Savannah's Historic District. Explore the City Market, Historic District and Savannah's nightlife.

Sat. 10/18 Depart for Sapelo Island and enjoy the Culture Day Celebration. Hog Hammock is the last intact community in the Sea Islands of Georgia and comprises direct descendants of slaves brought to Sapelo Island in 1802.

 The people still maintain many elements of the unique West African culture, language, and traditions brought over from the "Rice Coast" of Africa by their ancestors and continued on the isolated Sea Island. 

Enjoy the Cultural Day Celebration. See demonstrations of the West African/Gullah cultural connection; enjoy Gullah cuisine, educational forums, vendors market, entertainment, historical tours and more.

Return to Savannah's Historic District to explore River's Street's restaurants, pubs and unique shops on your own. Meander through the nine block cobbled concourse of riverside parks ideal for strolling and ship watching.

Sun. 10/19 Prepare for hotel check out. Enjoy sights and sounds of Savannah. Return to Atlanta at 7:00pm.

Invite family and friends and reduce your cost per person. Membership NOT required. All rooms will have two double beds (except for single rooms). The more people in the room the lower your cost: Quad (4 people); Triple (3 people); Double (2 people); Single (1 person).

A non-refundable deposit of $100.00 is required to hold your reservation ASAP.

Final payment due by August 15, 2008.

A late fee of $50.00 will be required for reservations and final payments after 8/15/2008.
